I wanted to tell you: I do actually live on a compound. It's not quite as you describe, but that's what we call it. We have, within maybe a quarter mile radius: my mother, my stepfather, my two nieces, one of their significant others, my sister and brother-in-law, my step-nephew and his wife and their three children. Also: five black dogs. (The compound rule is any colour so long as it is black, although one brindled mutt did manage to sneak in under the radar.) And a pig.

We have unspoken privacy rules (not too much dropping in), and sometimes there is a frisson of tension, but I really do love it. It does take a village.Tania Kindersleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18355967725006605825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8264466425852261124.post-580291160860959352010-04-08T21:52:32.769-07:002010-04-08T21:52:32.769-07:00First, I recently came across your blog and very m...First, I recently came across your blog and very much enjoy your posts. Second, I know that it is an odd idea to be socialble - friendly even - with the ex of the significant other, but doesn't it seem a more lovely idea than squabbaling with them all the time as most folks do? When I met my now husband, he and his ex-wife were like best friends (thankfully their life goals were in direct opposition, leaving him available for me!). There were no children involved, but it was very clear that I would need to get along with this other woman. And without even a second thought, I did. And now, six years later, it's nice to have her around. She's funny and understanding and not the least bit bitchy with me. I know this can't be the case in every situation, but wouldn't it be nice?Tuesdayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15292620229158544460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8264466425852261124.post-5813235715977598492010-04-08T11:54:10.224-07:002010-04-08T11:54:10.224-07:00Love this image!
